Grand Valley State University

Before we get started, a correction is needed for last week: Apparently, Quenton”s name is spelled with an ‘”o'” not an ‘”e.'” Needless to say, this sent all the ITC Scholars into a panic, seeing as the whole ‘”e'” thing was kind of fundamental to Knotreel”s prophecy. Fortunately, the Dashing Webmaster saved the day by busting out the original prophecy and studying it more closely. Turns out Knotreel just has really bad handwriting, and his ‘”o'””s just look like ‘”e'””s. I also want to make it clear that this was not my fault, it was all our Head Coach Ben Kanevsky”s fault for misspelling Quenton”s name on the meet entries. In fact, if anything in these posts are ever inaccurate, it”s all Ben”s fault.

Don”t worry Quenton, I”ll fix your name in the database today tomorrow by the end of the week I dunno. Someday. Maybe. Until then, if anyone asks, just tell them you were trying out the spelling ‘”Quenten'” to see how it felt, before deciding that you really only needed one repeated letter in your name.

Anyway, this past Friday and Saturday, the team went all the way to the Grand Valley State University in Michigan to compete. This was a particularly treacherous journey, because Michiginians are really bad at giving directions (they start jabbing at their palms like that has anything at all to do with finding the nearest bathroom)[1], so if any of our kids had gotten lost they would have been lost forever. Fortunately, none of them did.

Instead, a whole bunch of them drove 10 hours round trip to compete for the shortest amount of time in their entire lives[2]. First up, club records:

Emma Grimes broke the indoor record in the 3000m and the mile. She ran the 3000m in 10:33.89, and the mile in 5:13.89 (girl doesn”t know when to quit)[3]

Lauren Jonen broke both the 200m and 400m indoor records with times of 26.84 (in the 200) and 59.96 (for the 400m). Having broken two of Erin”s records in a single day, and still stinging from that whole ‘”Oh look I”m a record holder-oh wait, no I”m not'” from the beginning of the season, she proceeded to mock Erin mercilessly, maybe even driving her ‘”friend'” to tears.[4]

Not to be outdone, Jack Skelton proceeded to break both the 200m and 400m indoor record for the guys, with a time of 22.17 in the 200 and 49.12 in the 400.

Shannon Sledz broke the girl”s 800m record with a time of 2:23.73. Not bad for her third race with ITC.

Quenton, filled with rage at the misspelling of his name at my Ben”s hands, shattered the 60m dash record with a time of 6.98. He then proceeded to chase Ben from one end of GVSU to the other, screaming incoherently about ‘”o'””s and ‘”e'””s. Apparently, it was hilarious.[5]

And now, for the (Indoor) PR”s (there are a lot of them. I highly suggest going to the bathroom before you begin reading).

Erin Murphy ran a PR in the 400m with a time of 1:01.27
Abby Madden ran a PR in the mile with a time of 05:51.51 (hope she likes the number 5)
Paige Oboikovitz ran a PR in the mile with a time of 05:52.03
Megan Mocogni ran a PR in the 3000m with a time of 10:52.81
Beth McGreal ran a PR in the 3000m with a time of 11:04.71
Jayme Roberts ran a PR in both the 60m (7.33 seconds) and the 200m (23.17).
Ben Kanevsky ran a PR in the 400m with a time of 52.97 (probably because Quenton was still chasing him)
Mitch Sullivan ran a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:05.24
Evan White ran a PR in the mile with a time of 4:24.62
Joe Zeller ran a PR in the 3000m with a time of 8:56.07
Manny Del Rio jumped a PR in the Triple Jump with a distance of 12.08m

This Friday, the team will be going back to GVSU for GVSU II: The Revenge, and to EIU for EIU II : The Revenge. I, alas, will not be there. Fortunately, my Super Reliable Source will be at both of them, so who knows what kinds of Completely Factual Information he/she/it will have for me?

[1] And I should know. My mother”s from Michigan, and thanks to her, I can”t give directions to save my life. Thanks mom.
[2] Indoors
[3] Get it? Get it? It”s funny because she”s a distance runner, and distance runners run for a long time.
[4] I wasn”t actually there, but I totally heard this from a super reliable source who shall remain anonymous. The fact that A) Jonen wouldn”t ever actually do that, and B) Erin would probably do a little less crying, and a little more no holds barred beatdown just makes it all the more believable!
[5] Same source as [4]. It”s a good thing I”m only paying this guy/girl/swamp thing if he/she/it can tell me something interesting. Ensures quality.
