Throughout the end of last semester and winter break, the Illinois Track Club participated in three meets: the GVSU Early Bird, the IWU First Chance, and the Illini Classic. Although there was a limited squad at each meet, 3 club records were broken/established!
In Allendale, Junior Lauren Jonen ran a Women’s Indoor club record of 26.7s in the 200m dash and 41.72s in the 300m dash. The next day at Bloomington, Senior Jayme Roberts ran a Men’s indoor 300 m record of 36.49s, placing him 3rd overall in the meet. These performances show promise for the experienced sprinting core led by Coach Jack Skelton.
This Saturday at Eastern Illinois will mark the first meet for most members of the club, including distance/mid-distance groups that recently reached the podium in last year’s cross country NIRCA nationals.
