Double Meet Weekend!

The team travels to SPIRE and IWU,”Another weekend, another milestone for the 2016 Illinois Track Club. This past weekend athletes traveled both to Illinois Wesleyan University for the Titan Open, and a select few trekked all the way out Geneva Ohio for the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Open. There were many notable performances all across the board, whether they were 1 hour or 17 away.

From the women’s side, it was write up regulars Abby Ralph and Becky Haight, as well as Megan Frintner who led the women in notable performances. Junior Abby Ralph, for the second week in a row, rebroke the 60m hurdle record at SPIRE with a solid time of 10.35! Freshman Becky Haight also ran well in Ohio, with an especially good race in the 200 with a time of 26.76. At Illinois Wesleyan, sophomore Megan Frintner made her season debut with a new personal record in the mile with a time of 6:21; not a bad way to kick off the season.

The men had a lot of awesome performances as well. Starting with Wesleyan, freshman sprinter Joe Haight brought the heat in the 60 and 200, running times of 7.10 and 22.79. Moving on to the men’s distance squad at Wesleyan, Anthony Morgan ran a great mile with a PR time of 4:45! The men’s 3k had a phenomenal freshman showing, which was led by Josh Feldman and Willy Wolf with times of 9:17 and 9:18 respectively. Freshman Arturo Woodward-Montes had an awesome 3k as well by taking the lead in his heat with 7 laps to go, and holding on for a time of 9:31. Junior Tyler Dixon also looked strong coming through with a time of 9:50.

The men who went to SPIRE also performed very well with exciting races from sprinter Mateusz Lopez and Mid D runners Keith Lee, George Gunter, and Tyler Splitt. Sophomore Mateusz Lopez came out strong with a good 400 in a time of 51.39. Freshman Keith Lee, and sophomore George Gunter have seen steady improvement as well with 800 times of 2:01 and 2:02 respectively. The highlight of the weekend, however, was sophomore Mid D runner and coach Tyler Splitt whose day consisted of a very impressive 50.69 in the 400 and 2:00 in the 800. For his awesome performances, Tyler Splitt earned the ITC Official Interview this week. Check it out!
